Make a Difference

Are you retired and looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others? Do you live in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, or Wexford County?

Senior Volunteer Programs needs you! We help strengthen families in northern Michigan, but we can't do it alone. We seek volunteers to work with children in the classroom setting and become companions to isolated seniors.

Our program is part of AmeriCorps Seniors, which provides $600 monthly average stipends for volunteers who qualify.

Classroom Grandparent Volunteer
(Foster Grandparent Program)

Foster Grandparent volunteers, serve as role models, mentors, and tutors to children in need. Volunteers serve 10+ hours/week by meeting with children in schools, Head Start, daycare, YMCA, summer camp, or other center settings.

Not only do volunteers help children with specific learning such as reading, writing, and math, but they also provide a listening ear and companionship. Classroom grandparents become safe, consistent mentors in the lives of children at risk.

Senior Companion Volunteer

Senior Companion Volunteers serve as advocates, supporters, and companions to older adults who are frail and isolated. Volunteers serve 10+ hours/week supporting seniors, providing respite for family caregivers, and transporting them within the community.

Volunteers may transport and accompany seniors to doctor appointments,  barber/beauty shop, pharmacy, and grocery shopping. Volunteers provide companionship while visiting.

Senior companions help connect seniors to their community and help them maintain their dignity and independence.
