Who We Are
Since its founding in 1972 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gaylord, Catholic Human Services has been committed to making a difference in the lives of the people in Northern Lower Michigan. We serve individuals and families regardless of faith, income, race, or ethnicity.
Catholic Human Services has grown over the years to 5 main offices and 16 satellite offices. We are highly recognized in the 21 counties of Northern Michigan for our outstanding work of providing hope-filled social, emotional and spiritual support to all people. We have been blessed over the years with a committed professional staff whose tenure has stabilized this agency.
We provide mental health, substance abuse, prevention, pregnancy counseling, open adoption, social services and senior services to over 26,000 people per year. We work in partnership with local, county, and state agencies to offer a wide range of services considered to be the "best practices" in the field.
Catholic Human Services is based administratively in Traverse City and has regional offices in Alpena, Gaylord and Cadillac. Each of the regional offices are the "hub" for services in many other community locations throughout the service area.

Dance-Off for Charity
Host Homes for Homeless Youth Fundraising Campaign
Host Homes for Homeless Youth was selected as one of six charities participating in the 2011 SwingShift and the Stars Dance Off for Charity fundraising campaign. We are deeply appreciative of our Star Dancer, John Corcoran. John has graciously volunteered to represent Host Homes and as such is spending countless hours to practice dancing, attend media events, and ultimately perform in the four live competitions at the City Opera House in Traverse City. Despite being unfamiliar with Host Homes for Homeless Youth, John did not hesitate to show his support and be a large part of this fundraising effort when he learned about our efforts to help students determined to graduate from high school who need safe, stable, adult-supervised housing. John will be an integral part of our efforts to generate awareness of the problem of homeless youth in our community and the need for Host Homes.
We are proud to announce Host Homes is an effective strategy to reduce the number of high school drop-outs. In fact, since 2007, 100% of our seniors have earned their high school diploma.
In the past, this CHS program has been funded by multiple grants and donations. Unfortunately, availability of grants to further offer this program is limited and the demand for Host Homes far exceeds our ability to provide housing to every student in need. Our goal to raise over $100,000 will fund the program for a year. While $100,000 is a lot of money, consider the on-going
costs to our community when a student drops out of high school in comparison to the cost of providing a Host Home and ensuring a young adult is ready to become a productive member of society armed with a high school diploma.
We are honored to be part of the SwingShift and the Stars’ fundraising campaign as it gives us the opportunity to secure money to continue helping students. We invite you to join us at any of the live events and deeply appreciate any level of contribution from you to help us meet our goal.
