- Supporting Families | Catholic Human Services
Catholic Human Services supports families across Northern Michigan with counseling, resources, and community programs. Our services empower parents and caregivers to build strong, healthy, and resilient family relationships for lasting well-being. SUPPORTING FAMILIES STRONG FAMILIES BUILD STRONGER COMMUNITIES Catholic Human Services is committed to strengthening families who face complex challenges—because when families are supported, entire communities thrive. We partner closely with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Community Mental Health (CMH) to provide in-home, strength-based services that help families stabilize, grow, and stay together. Our goal is to reduce the risk of out-of-home placements, such as foster care or hospitalization, by supporting families exactly where they are. We serve Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties. FAMILY TOGETHER BUILDING SOLUTIONS This program uses solution-focused therapy to help families identify what they want their ideal future to look like—often starting with the question: “If you woke up tomorrow and your family was perfect, what would be different?” Together, we develop personalized strategies to work toward those goals. These may include: Reducing conflict in the home Helping a child succeed in school Creating safer discipline practices Improving housing or home hygiene Supporting employment or access to basic needs This program is available by referral through DHHS and is designed specifically for families at risk of foster care involvement. WRAPAROUND SERVICES For families with children experiencing serious emotional disturbances, CHS facilitates the Wraparound process—a coordinated, team-based approach that brings together multiple systems to support the child and family. With the guidance of a CHS Family Support Specialist, each team is led by the family and may include: CMH, DHHS, or school personnel Natural supports like grandparents, siblings, or neighbors Non-traditional or community-based supports The goal is to give families a voice in planning, improve coordination among providers, and address the full range of challenges impacting the child’s well-being. Wraparound services are available by referral from CMH. Some families we serve are also navigating the realities of substance use disorder. Our Family Recovery Care Team offers specialized support for these families by pairing them with Peer Recovery Coaches—individuals who have walked a similar path and offer real-life insight, encouragement, and guidance. This support includes: Building a family voice and shared vision for recovery Enhancing home safety and family stability Connecting families to essential resources Addressing barriers to treatment Creating actionable recovery goals that preserve family unity At CHS, we believe in the power of family. Our programs are designed to meet families with compassion, build on their strengths, and walk with them toward long-term healing and stability. To learn more, contact us or speak with your DHHS or CMH caseworker about a referral. CONTACT A CHS NEAR YOU
- Give | Catholic Human Services
Support Catholic Human Services in Northern Michigan by giving today. Your donation helps fund programs for behavioral health, recovery, prevention, seniors, and families, making a meaningful impact in our communities and lives we serve. GIVE PARTNER WITH US TO STRENGTHEN NORTHERN MICHIGAN For over 50 years, Catholic Human Services has provided life-changing support to individuals and families across Northern Michigan. As we look ahead, our mission remains clear: to meet the evolving needs of our communities with compassion, excellence, and integrity. In the coming years, CHS is focused on two core goals: Strengthening existing programs Expanding counseling services for families in need Your generosity plays a vital role in making that possible. WAYS YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT Client Assistance Fund (CAF): Your gift directly reduces the cost of care for individuals and families who are uninsured, underinsured, or facing financial hardship. Every dollar donated to the CAF helps someone access critical services such as: Substance use disorder treatment Mental health and trauma recovery Marital and family counseling Support for unexpected pregnancies 100% of your donation goes directly toward client care. Examples of impact: $100 → Helps cover a pregnancy or individual counseling session $150 → Supports a session of family therapy $250 → Provides access to group recovery services Support Educational Programming: CHS offers a wide range of evidence-based education for youth, families, schools, and service providers—both virtually and in person. Your gift helps fund: $500 → Interactive drug prevention classes for youth $1,000 → Continuing education opportunities for service providers $5,000 → A large-scale motivational prevention event at a local school Help Expand Marriage & Family Counseling: As community needs grow, so does our vision. CHS is receiving an increasing number of referrals from clergy seeking support for struggling couples. In response, we are working to expand our marriage and family counseling program—aiming to serve at least 300 families per year. This expansion will require an estimated $400,000 investment. We are seeking donors who believe in strengthening the family unit and are ready to partner in building a sustainable, community-based solution. Once launched, we expect the expanded program to become self-sustaining within two years. TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE Your support helps transform lives—bringing healing, hope, and stability to those who need it most. Whether you're able to give any amount or invest in a long-term vision, your generosity strengthens Northern Michigan one family at a time. To learn more about giving opportunities, contact us directly or donate online today. Please mail donations to: 1000 Hastings St Traverse City, MI 49686
