Established in 1972 in northern lower Michigan, Catholic Human Services now provides programming for 21 counties. An array of counseling, adoption, advocacy, education, volunteerism, respite and community development programs are services of this major delivery system. Our original mission was, and still is, to serve the poor and otherwise disadvantaged. Over time, we have maintained that foundation while growing in collaborations and quality program developments earning us a reputation of innovation and respect in our communities. ALCOHOL AND DRUG SERVICES includes adolescent and adult counseling for individual, group and family; screening and assessments; Alcohol Highway Safety Education classes and other psycho-educational groups; and older adult recovery services.
FAMILY SERVICES provides outpatient counseling to individuals, couples and families with adjustment problems other than alcohol and other drugs. Some common issues include marital conflict, parent child conflict, anxiety, depression, grief and loss.
PREVENTION SERVICES provides awareness and skill building programs to strengthen the building blocks for success in the lives of youth. These services include alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention programs, services for special at-risk populations, parent training for success in special circumstances, along with consultations and trainings for the community.
PREGNANCY COUNSELING provides confidential services to women of all ages dealing with what might be an untimely pregnancy.
OPEN ADOPTION offers a unique opportunity for birthparents to choose the family who will adopt their child while developing a potential ongoing connection with the child they have in common.
SENIOR COMPANION AND FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAMS provide volunteer opportunities for low income seniors to receive a non-taxable stipend and other benefits in exchange for special volunteer companionship assignments with other older adults or children with special needs.
NURSING HOME SERVICES provide case consultation, staff training, mental health services and case management to area nursing homes through a contract with Northern Lakes Community Mental Health.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM provides consultation and training in the workplace to promote well-being and productivity; and offers confidential assessment, brief therapy, and referral services to employees who are experiencing personal concerns that may interfere with job performance.
