Frequently Asked Questions - Do you have to be Catholic to receive services?
No. All services are offered to anyone, regardless of religious affiliation.
- Is everyone who works there a Catholic?
No. Our employees represent many denominations and faiths. Catholic Human Services is a Christian organization, but does not set out to convert those who come for services.
- Do you charge for your services?
Most services have a fee, some are offered at no charge. Some services have a flat fee, such as assessments. When a fee is charged, Catholic Human Services makes every effort to bill available insurance or Medicaid. The State of Michigan provides assistance for some of the substance abuse and prevention services. There is a sliding fee scale that is offered in some situations, along with payment plans. Contact the office nearest you for specific information about the fees and billing.
- How many counseling sessions will I have to complete?
The number of visits depends on a person’s individual situation and problems or needs. Some services involve only one or two sessions. For some of the group counseling services, there are a specific number of weeks involved. The number of sessions is based on the types of services needed to help and is discussed early in the service process.
- Do you do international home studies for adoptions?
Yes
- What are the credentials of the staff members?
For the Alcohol and Drug Services, Family Services, and Employee Assistance Programs, the staff members are professional counselors and social workers and are supervised by a psychiatrist. Many are also certified drug and alcohol counselors. Staff members in the Child Welfare program who work with adoption are professional social workers. Those in the Gerontology Program are both professionally trained and are trained volunteers.
- Can I get evening or weekend appointments?
Normal office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening appointments can be made by special arrangement with the counselor or therapist. Some groups are offered in the evenings, too.
